Job Description
A School Board Director is one of the most important roles in a school district and has direct impact on the educational quality of Tukwila Schools.
Responsibilities include:
- Attending all Board meetings
- Formulating and approving budgets
- Developing and approving policies
- Hiring and evaluating the Superintendent
- Advocating for the residents of your Director Area
- Setting high instructional and learning goals for staff and students
- Nurturing a positive climate that's conducive to continuous improvement

How do I apply to become a Director?
Please visit the Board of Directors Application page for requirement information and how to apply. Upon receipt, your application will be reviewed. After review, the Board of Directors will conduct an interview during a public meeting. The Board of Directors will then determine whether to approve the appointment.
Calendar and time obligations
The amount of time each Director spends in the position varies, but the average time obligation per week is six hours. Directors are required to attend one regular Board meeting, one work session per month, quarterly Saturday meetings, and occasional special meetings. Board members are encouraged to attend school events and visit school buildings.
