Portrait of a Graduate

Preparing every Tukwila scholar for college, career, and life.

What should every scholar know, be able to do, and carry with them when they graduate from Tukwila School District?

Our Portrait of a Graduate represents our shared vision for the skills, mindsets, and qualities every Tukwila scholar should develop throughout their educational journey.

Our Portrait

A Tukwila graduate is prepared not only with academic knowledge, but with the skills and qualities to navigate opportunities, challenges, relationships, and life beyond graduation.

Our Portrait of a Graduate identifies six competencies we want every scholar to develop:

Built With Our Community

A shared vision for Tukwila scholars

Development of Tukwila School District's Portrait of a Graduate began in 2025 with a fundamental question:

What do we want every Tukwila scholar to know, be able to do, and carry with them when they graduate?

The Portrait builds upon Washington's Profile of a Graduate while reflecting the aspirations of the Tukwila community.

Through engagement with scholars, families, staff, and community members, Tukwila School District explored the skills, mindsets, experiences, and qualities our community believes scholars need to thrive in college, career, community, and life.

Those voices helped shape the six competencies represented in Tukwila's Portrait of a Graduate.

From Portrait to Practice

Bringing the Portrait to life

The Portrait of a Graduate is more than a graphic. It is a shared commitment to the experiences and opportunities we want every Tukwila scholar to have throughout their educational journey.

Our next step is bringing the Portrait to life across our schools.

A Shared Commitment

Every Tukwila scholar's journey will look different.

Our shared responsibility is to ensure that scholars have meaningful opportunities throughout that journey to think critically, communicate effectively, persevere through challenges, demonstrate empathy and kindness, adapt to change, and prepare for their futures.

The Portrait of a Graduate gives our district and community a shared vision for that work—and a question we can continue asking:

How are we helping every Tukwila scholar develop the skills, experiences, and qualities represented in our Portrait of a Graduate?
