The Tukwila School District would like to introduce our new School Resource Officer Joe Tran. Officer Tran takes the place of our previous SRO Charles Saugil who has taken a position with the Port of Seattle. Officer Tran will be working with the students and staff at Foster High School, but may on occasion be seen around other buildings in the District.
"We are lucky in that the Tukwila Police Officers who Joe works with recognized the need to have a full-time SRO on campus," said Principal Meg McGroarty of Foster High School. "Officer Tran will take over the transportation duties that were pulling Charles away from campus so often to allow Joe to be here full time. He has been getting to know the students a bit and would welcome any opportunity to come into our classrooms to get to know our students even better." she went on to say.
Officer Tran comes to the District with a connection to which many of Tukwila School District's students may relate. In 1989 Officer Tran's family fled Vietnam to the Philippines after being rescued by an Iranian ship. Officer Tran and his family spent four years in the Philippines waiting for a chance to immigrate to the United States. In 1993, when he was 14 years old, he arrived in the United States as a refugee knowing very little English. He graduated from Ingraham High School in Seattle and eventually earned his Bachelor's Degree from Central Washington University.
Please take time to welcome Officer Tran to the Tukwila Family!
