The Tukwila School District Board of Directors has selected Dr. Lester “Flip” Herndon to be the Interim Superintendent. He was selected from 3 candidates who were interviewed on Tuesday, October 16th, 2018. He will take the helm at Tukwila School District November 1st, 2018.
Dr. Herndon comes to the Tukwila School District with over 20 years of experience in K-12 education. He has been a middle school teacher, high school track coach, elementary school principal and was the Superintendent in the Bremerton School District. Dr. Herndon will be coming to TSD from Seattle Public Schools where he is Associate Superintendent of Capital, Facilities and Enrollment Planning. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Whitman College, a Master of Education Degree from Harvard University, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Washington.
“I think Tukwila is an incredible community that is rich in diversity and is passionate about the education of their children. The opportunity to work with people who share that passion is always something I want to be a part of.” said Dr. Herndon. “The challenge is how to help students sift through all that is available to them and prepare them to make good decisions and see their presence as a positive impact in the community.” he said.

The Board held several listening sessions throughout the community garnering input during the selection process. They thanked the community for their contribution and help in making a decision.
Dr. Herndon and his wife Suzanne have three boys attending public schools. In his spare time he likes to hike, and go mountain climbing. He is an avid marathon runner and long distance cyclist. Welcome Dr. Herndon!
