(Tukwila, WA)-- Tukwila School District is welcoming Constance Thomas. She will take her post as Principal of Thorndyke Elementary School July, 1, 2019.
Thomas is from Washington having lived most of her life in Seattle, but spent part of her youth in Wenatchee. She has her BA in Theatre from the University of Washington, and received her teaching credentials and Masters in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College, and her Principal Certification from Seattle University.
This is not the first time she has been at the helm of an elementary school. She was a Principal at Gatewood Elementary School in Seattle Public Schools. She has also held other positions in Seattle Public Schools including Assistant Principal, Instructional Mentor, and she is leaving her current role as Emotional Discipline Case Manager to lead Thorndyke Elementary School here in Tukwila School District.
“I am very eager to return to a school leadership position after taking a year to focus on family and take time for reflection about my leadership practices,” Constance Thomas said. “Although SPS has been a great part of my education career, I am eager to serve families in a more diverse and smaller district.” she continued.
She said she is ready to get to work for the students and families of Thorndyke. She recognizes that there is some tough work to do and she is eager to work collaboratively with the Thorndyke community to get them where they want to be. She said she is eager to make her new school a place where students have room to fall down, get up, and take the next step.
“I want students to be advocates for social justice and caretakers of the planet. I want students to remain curious, become responsible thinkers, and problem solvers who have empathy and courage. Our differences make us stronger.” Thomas went on to say.
In her spare time she plays duets on the flute with her daughter who plays the cello. She loves to Zumba dance, and also relishes hiking, and taking beach walks.
With 80 languages spoken among our 2,736 students, Tukwila School District is one of the most diverse school districts in the country.
