Thank You from Superintendent Dr. Flip Herndon
A special thank you to the Tukwila community for your continuous support of our students, staff, and schools. I am happy to announce that voters approved two funding measures on the February 11 ballot. The renewal of these measures ensures our students have access to the resources they need to be successful.
The Education Programs and Operations (EP&O) levy bridges the funding gap between what the state provides and what the district needs to fund and operate the district. This includes funding for additional nurses, counselors, family advocates, and custodians. The EP&O levy also funds a portion of Special Education services, textbooks and instructional materials, academic programs and classroom support, and extracurricular activities such as athletics and clubs.
The Technology and Capital Levy ensures that every student is prepared for the careers of tomorrow by providing access to modern technology. The levy makes necessary safety and security improvements throughout the district and includes upgrades to emergency communication resources. The levy funds classroom technology upgrades and repairs to maximize building energy efficiency.
The renewal of these two levies would not have been possible without the support of our staff. I want to thank our staff and school board for ensuring our district created measures that would benefit all students. I would also like to thank Support Tukwila Schools for their time and hard work making sure every person in our community understands why these measures are needed.
Through the approval of these two levies, our community is helping us reach our strategic goals of building the best future for our students.
