Hiring Announcement - Director of ELL, Early Learning and Elementary Education

Greetings Tukwila Staff, Families, and Partners:
Please join us in extending an enthusiastic welcome to Ms. Stephanie Chen as she assumes the role of Director of ELL, Early Learning, and Elementary Education for the Tukwila School District! Ms. Chen’s first day will be Tuesday, September 1st, 2020.
While establishing herself as a learner, collaborator, and leader in the realm of impactful education for students receiving English language learner supports, Ms. Chen has served students and staff in public education for more than 20 years. She earned two bachelor degrees from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a Master in Teaching degree and Principal certificate from the University of Washington. She has held the positions of ELL and Bilingual teacher, Language Immersion teacher, ELL and Academic Interventionist, and Assistant Principal. Her extensive training and experience in ELL and elementary education, as well as school leadership, have prepared her for this role in Tukwila.
Ms. Chen writes: “To this position, I will bring my racial and cultural identities as an immigrant, a lifelong learner and an educator who is always open to feedback. My goals for student achievement are to provide a safe, empowering and diverse place for each child to experience growth and learning. I strive to empower stakeholders to increase the students’ growth mindsets and self-efficacy through high leverage student discourses and activities. As a director of ELL services, Early, and Elementary Education, I will work diligently to improve access and opportunities to be an equity-driven and informed collaborative leader working alongside administrators and educators to provide the high-quality education that every student deserves.
To find balance in her life, Ms. Chen loves to tend to her garden and growing and nurturing her vegetables, fruit trees, and flowers. She enjoys spending time with her family reading, seeing movies, cooking, sharing meals, hiking, or traveling.
