Greetings Tukwila Staff, Students, and Community:
Please join us in extending an enthusiastic welcome to Mr. James Blanton as he has accepted the position of Principal of Foster High School! Mr. Blanton’s first day will be July 1, 2021.
While establishing himself as a learner, collaborator, and leader in secondary education, Mr. Blanton has served students and staff in public education in the states of Virginia and Texas, and locally in Kent and Seattle. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Howard University, a Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and a K-12 Principal credential from the University of Washington. He has served students, staff, and the community in the roles of social studies teacher, dean of students, and assistant principal. His well-rounded experience in the classroom and in school leadership has prepared him to be the next leader of Foster High School.
Mr. Blanton writes, “As principal of Foster High School, I envision working collaboratively with the staff, students, and community to create a shared vision of a student-centered learning environment that builds on the rich culture and traditions of the school and community. I strongly believe in building equitable schools that support our most vulnerable students and those who are historically furthest from educational justice. We will be deemed successful only by maintaining high academic standards while preparing all students for success in academics and life after high school.”
To find balance in his life, Mr. Blanton enjoys film, music, hiking, reading, working out, traveling, and spending time with family.
Once again, please warmly welcome Mr. Blanton to the Tukwila School District!
