Greetings Foster Families,
I would like to share some important updates on the construction about to begin at Foster High School. You may be aware that we are about to undergo a major modernization and expansion project that will add 16 new classrooms, double the size of the commons, add a new auxiliary gym and modernize all existing classroom spaces. We have confirmation that we will be under construction for the expansion and modernization project starting on January 2, 2019, meaning that we will have some modified procedures when we return from winter break.
Pick up and drop off zones will shift to the student parking lot due to the current staff parking lot and student drop off zone being inaccessible. A graphic of the pick up and drop off traffic flow is included here. Additionally, staff will begin parking in assigned spots in what is the current student parking lot immediately upon return from winter break. Students parking on campus will be required to secure a permit from the office in order to park on the school property. Students will not be charged for the permit, but it will be required and will also secure them an assigned spot in the lot. Information about the student permit process has been emailed out to student’s school email accounts.
We anticipate that the traffic in the student parking lot will greatly increase and ask that extra time be allowed in the mornings to adjust for the increase in the number of vehicles entering and exiting the parking lot. We also encourage any ride-sharing that can be arranged to reduce the number of vehicles entering and exiting campus. Please be mindful and courteous as we all make this adjustment together.
The school’s appearance will change rather dramatically in a short period of time but we want to assure you that school operations will continue as usual throughout the duration of construction. The completion of the project is anticipated for the opening of the 20-21 school year. We are very excited about the changes about to take place but also know that with a project of this scale there will be hiccups along the way. We look forward to partnering with you as we work through any bumps that we run into. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the school and we will work to answer questions and address concerns as they arise. We will also continue to communicate with you as we run into changes and concerns along the way.
