Caspar Van Haalen
Thorndyke Elementary School
My name is Caspar van Haalen. This is my tenth year in school administration, and I am privileged to call myself interim principal at this wonderful, unique community of educators, learners, and families.
An English Learner myself (40% of the students at Thorndyke are English Learners), I have always been drawn to serving students and families from different language backgrounds. Having moved around quite a bit (I was born and raised in the Netherlands), I know what it is like to start over, again and again. As Thorndyke’s interim principal, I value each and every student, staff member, and family for what they contribute to this vibrant, diverse community.
Ensuring equitable learning opportunities for all students is my top priority. It is my job to see to it that all students are respected and that they can learn in a welcoming, safe environment. At Thorndyke, we prepare students academically and social-emotionally for what comes next in their school careers. We believe in rigor, relevance, and relationships. Every student matters. Every staff member matters. Every family matters.
When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, including three grandchildren. I also enjoy outdoor activities, music, and sports.
I extend an open invitation to you to visit our school and engage in the passion for learning and teaching. I will always do my best to make myself available to you.
